For Amina Anderson Rodriguez, every opportunity to compete comes with an expectation: play with intention and give 110 percent effort. The Class of 2030 athlete brings that approach to flag football, travel softball and the classroom.
As her team’s starting junior varsity quarterback, Anderson Rodriguez has scored four rushing touchdowns across her last two games. The freshman is contributing with her legs while gaining experience leading the offense and working toward her goal of competing at the next level.
On the softball field, Anderson Rodriguez plays catcher and utility, bringing versatility to her travel team. So far this season, she has posted a .300 batting average and a .600 on-base percentage. Whether she is behind the plate, filling another defensive position or stepping into the batter’s box, she believes the standard of effort should stay the same.
Her accomplishments extend to academics, where she carries a 4.1 GPA. Alongside her goals in two sports, her performance in the classroom is another part of her story as a student-athlete.
Anderson Rodriguez credits her family as a driving force behind her ambitions. Their support, along with her desire to reach the next level, motivates her to keep improving. She also holds onto a belief that shapes how she approaches challenges: “Mistakes don’t define you.”
For Anderson Rodriguez, an error or a difficult play does not have to determine what comes next. Her focus is on bringing purpose and full effort to the next opportunity, wherever she lines up.
