For Ava Kiefer, softball is about more than what happens when the ball is in play. It is also about the friendships, the competition and the energy teammates bring to one another through every inning.
The Rio Americano High School freshman, a member of the Class of 2030, plays outfield, second base and catcher. A left-handed slapper, Kiefer embraces opportunities to contribute in different roles while working toward her goal of playing collegiate softball.
Her enthusiasm is especially evident in the dugout. Kiefer loves leading chants, encouraging teammates and keeping the energy up, whether her team is winning or working through a difficult game. Supporting the players around her is a central part of the teammate she wants to become.
“I want to be the kind of teammate who brings positive energy, competes hard, and lifts everyone up,” Kiefer said.
That mindset extends to her approach on the field. She enjoys the adrenaline of competition, the excitement of making a big play and the opportunity to do whatever she can to help her team succeed. Her motivation comes from both her love for softball and the relationships built through the sport.
Looking ahead, Kiefer hopes to continue her career at the collegiate level. She understands that reaching that goal will require dedication and steady improvement, and she is willing to put in the work to see how far she can go.
As her high school journey begins, Kiefer’s priorities are clear: keep improving, compete with purpose and give her teammates someone they can count on.
