Deante Gray Jr. is building his future around a simple motivation: getting better every day.
The Antelope High School junior in the Class of 2028 contributes across all three phases of football, playing defensive back, running back and wide receiver while also serving as a kick return specialist. With four touchdowns and one interception, Gray is finding ways to contribute on both sides of the ball.
His versatility gives him several opportunities to help his team. Whether carrying the ball, lining up at receiver, defending a pass or returning a kickoff, Gray embraces responsibilities that demand different skills and a willingness to keep learning.
His speed extends to the track, where his supplied 2026 outdoor marks include 10.81 seconds in the 100 meters and 22.14 seconds in the 200 meters. Those performances add another dimension to an athlete balancing multiple roles on the football field.
What drives him is straightforward.
“To be better every day,” Gray said of his motivation.
That mindset also shapes his ambitions beyond high school. Gray hopes to compete at the collegiate level while pursuing an academic path toward becoming a neurosurgeon. His goals reflect a desire to challenge himself both athletically and academically.
For now, his focus is on the improvement that can move him toward those opportunities. With another year of high school ahead after this season, Gray has time to continue developing his game and preparing for the demands of college.
From the football field to the track and classroom, Gray is setting goals that give his daily work direction. His next steps begin with the same standard he has already set for himself: keep getting better.
