For Ponderosa senior Emmy Angelo, running is about helping her team become better. A three-year captain and holder of four school records, Angelo has built her high school career around both individual improvement and a commitment to her teammates.
The Class of 2027 cross country and track athlete has recorded times of 16:45 for three miles, 17:34 for the 5K and 10:44 for two miles. She also brings experience from the state track meet, where she competed in the 3200 meters.
Her athletic foundation stretches back to third grade, when she began balancing soccer and running. Years of competing in both sports have led to a senior season with meaningful goals still ahead.
This fall, Angelo hopes to reach the state cross country meet with her Ponderosa teammates in November. Along the way, she is targeting another second-place team finish behind St. Francis at sections. For a runner who loves competing with the purpose of bettering her team, those shared goals carry particular importance.
Her leadership gives that ambition a daily focus. Now in her third year as a captain, Angelo values the opportunity to work alongside her teammates and contribute to their progress.
Beyond high school, she hopes to continue running in college. Angelo is currently navigating the recruiting process and hopes to make a commitment soon.
With four school records, state-meet experience and a team-first outlook, Angelo enters the next stretch of her journey focused on making the most of her senior year and helping Ponderosa move forward with her.
