For Folsom High School junior Eva Serrano, flag football is an opportunity to compete, lead, and help younger girls discover what is possible through the sport.
The Class of 2028 quarterback and linebacker has recorded 1,973 passing yards this season, ranking fourth in the league, along with 299 rushing yards. Now in her third high school season, Serrano takes pride in her football IQ, preparation, and work ethic.
Her foundation began taking shape as a freshman, when she earned team MVP honors and a spot on the Sierra Foothill League Second Team All-League. Since then, she has continued developing her game while embracing greater responsibility as a leader on Folsom’s varsity team.
This season, Serrano hopes to help lead her team to its first playoff run. Beyond high school, she wants to play flag football in college and eventually coach the next generation of girls—work she has already begun.
Serrano has coached youth flag football for two years and softball for approximately four years. Coaching is one of her strongest passions, giving her a chance to share her knowledge and encourage younger athletes as they build confidence in their own abilities.
That commitment to others also carries into her school community through student government. While balancing flag football, coaching, softball umpiring, and other extracurricular activities, Serrano has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout high school.
Her family and long-term goals keep her motivated, but so does the opportunity to set an example.
“I want to set the example to younger girls that flag football can bring you amazing opportunities and if you work hard enough you will get places,” Serrano said.
With the remainder of her junior season ahead and another year at Folsom to follow, Serrano is determined to keep improving. The community she has found through flag football remains central to that journey and through coaching and leadership, she is helping create that same sense of opportunity for others.
