When Vernard Scott arrived at Destiny Christian Academy in February, he was looking for a school that matched who he was both as an athlete and as a person.
So far, he believes he found it.
Born and raised in Oakland, California, Scott attended Oakland Tech High School before relocating to the Sacramento area. With the move already planned, choosing where to continue his education and football career became an important decision.
Destiny Christian Academy stood out.
Scott felt the school’s environment and football program suited him, giving him confidence that DCA was the right place to continue developing. Since enrolling, his experience has reinforced that decision.
At 5-foot-11 and 177 pounds, Scott plays safety, bringing a Bay Area football background to Destiny Christian’s secondary. The position places him at the heart of a defense, where reading the field, reacting quickly and providing a physical presence are essential.
Those are responsibilities Scott will look to embrace as he establishes himself within the program.
His Oakland roots remain an important part of his story. Growing up in the city and spending time at Oakland Tech provided experiences Scott now carries with him to Sacramento, even as he begins carving out his own identity at DCA.
For Scott, choosing Destiny Christian wasn’t simply about finding another football program. It was about finding a place where he felt he belonged.
Now settled in Sacramento, Scott is focused on making the most of that fit and leaving his own mark on the Destiny Christian defense.
