For most high school athletes, balancing academics and varsity sports is already a demanding responsibility. For Granite Bay High School’s Billy Heinselman, the Class of 2027 standout is taking on an additional challenge: pursuing his passion for aviation while serving as a varsity football captain.
A linebacker and fullback for the Grizzlies, Heinselman has established himself as a leader within the football program. His role as a varsity captain reflects the responsibility he carries among his teammates, both on and off the field.
Playing on both sides of the football requires versatility, discipline, and a willingness to embrace different responsibilities. At linebacker, Heinselman contributes defensively, while his role at fullback allows him to make an impact on offense.
Beyond the football field, Heinselman has another passion that distinguishes him from many of his peers. He is also a pilot, pursuing an interest in aviation while navigating the demands of high school academics and athletics.
The combination of football and flying reflects two pursuits that require preparation, concentration, and accountability. Whether preparing for competition or taking to the skies, Heinselman is developing skills that extend well beyond athletics.
His ambitions on the football field remain clear. Heinselman hopes to continue his athletic career at the NCAA Division I level, where he can compete against some of the nation’s top collegiate athletes while furthering his education.
For Heinselman, however, success is about more than athletic accomplishments or future opportunities. His Christian faith is an important part of his identity, providing a foundation for the way he approaches his responsibilities and aspirations.
As his high school career progresses, Heinselman continues working toward a future that brings together his academic ambitions, athletic goals, and passion for aviation.
With Division I football aspirations, a leadership role at Granite Bay, and an interest in flying, Billy Heinselman is building a path that reaches far beyond the football field.
