Levi Unfried is making the most of his final season before high school. The Del Oro Jr. Golden Eagles quarterback in the Class of 2031 is delivering explosive plays, sharpening his command of the position and preparing to continue a family connection to Del Oro football.
The reigning Best Middle School QB at the 3-D QB Future Legends Combine has backed that recognition with production. According to his charted plays, Unfried has thrown for 858 yards on 39 completions this season, averaging 22 yards per completion. Fifteen of those completions have covered at least 20 yards.
His touchdown passes tell a similar story. Ten of his scoring throws have averaged 45 yards, with eight covering at least 30. Among the highlights were an 81-yard touchdown against Folsom and an 80-yard score against 12 Bridges.
As the season has progressed, Unfried has put together some of his strongest performances. Over his last two games, he completed 15 of 26 passes for 349 yards and five touchdowns. Against Rocklin, he finished 11 of 17 for 220 yards and four touchdowns, closing his performance with nine consecutive completions.
Those numbers reflect more than his ability to connect downfield. Away from practices and games, Unfried consistently studies film of his own plays, reviewing his decisions and identifying opportunities to improve. His pocket presence has developed throughout the season, adding another dimension to his growth as a quarterback.
His motivation comes from the people who continue to show up for him. Unfried says knowing someone is always on the sideline rooting for him pushes him to keep improving. The support of his family and community gives personal meaning to the work he puts into the game.
Next year, he will head to Del Oro, following his older brothers: Aaron, a wide receiver in the Class of 2023, and Jonah, a quarterback in the Class of 2025. For Levi, that next step offers an opportunity to build his own career in a program that already holds significance for his family.
He looks forward to playing for head coach Josh Parry and developing within the Golden Eagles’ offense under new offensive coordinator Marco Baldacchino.
First, however, there is a playoff run to pursue. Unfried and the Del Oro Jr. Golden Eagles are preparing to face Granite Bay in the first round this week. After a season marked by long touchdown passes and steady improvement, his immediate focus is helping his team earn another game together.
