For Granite Bay High School junior Lucy Arbuckle, success in the pool comes down to improving her game and helping her team win. A member of the Class of 2028, Arbuckle has competed on the girls varsity water polo team since her freshman year, building her experience at center defender.
With the 2026 fall season still underway, Arbuckle has recorded 15 goals, 19 assists, 28 blocks and 26 steals. Her contributions extend across both ends of the pool, combining defensive stops with scoring and opportunities created for her teammates.
Those numbers follow a decorated sophomore season. Last year, Arbuckle earned all-tournament recognition at the Arroyo Grande tournament before finishing the season with first-team all-league and first-team all-section honors.
Despite those accomplishments, Arbuckle remains focused on the areas where she can grow. She wants to strengthen her perimeter shooting and become more versatile on offense and defense, giving her more ways to contribute as situations change throughout a game.
Her motivation goes beyond individual recognition. Becoming a better leader and finding ways to support her teammates are central to why she plays. Facing difficult opponents gives her another opportunity to test her progress and identify what she can improve.
“I love the challenge of going up against tough opponents because I want to keep improving and know that I’ve done everything I can to help my team win,” Arbuckle said.
As Granite Bay continues its season, Arbuckle is working to build on her defensive foundation while expanding the rest of her game. Her goals remain clear: become a more complete player, grow as a leader and give her team every opportunity to succeed.
