Jesuit High School | Class of 2027 | Cross Country & Track
For Matthew Ogilvie, distance running is about more than chasing times. The Jesuit High School Class of 2027 runner is focused on leaving a lasting impact on the program while pursuing ambitious goals of his own.
Ogilvie competes in cross country and specializes in the 800-meter, 1600-meter and 3200-meter events on the track. As he continues his senior year, one of his priorities is setting an example for the younger runners coming through Jesuit’s program.
He wants his teammates to see what can be accomplished through consistent work, discipline and a willingness to pursue difficult goals. Ultimately, Ogilvie hopes to be remembered as someone who made a positive contribution to Jesuit cross country and track and helped raise the standard for those who follow him.
His competitive goals are equally ambitious. Ogilvie wants to put himself in position to contend for a state championship while helping Jesuit earn an opportunity to compete at Nike Cross Nationals.
Those goals carry additional meaning after dealing with setbacks that have prevented him from consistently showing what he believes he can accomplish at full strength. Rather than allowing those experiences to define his career, Ogilvie is using them as motivation for what comes next.
When he steps onto the starting line, his confidence comes from the work already completed. He reflects on the hours of training, preparation and attention he has dedicated to his sport. Knowing he has put in the work gives him the belief that the goals he sets for himself are within reach.
Now, Ogilvie is looking forward to the opportunity to put that preparation on display — competing for championships, contributing to Jesuit’s team success and leaving behind an example for the next generation of runners.
For Ogilvie, success will not only be measured by where he finishes. It will also be measured by the impact he leaves on the program after his final race at Jesuit.
