Grant Union High School running back Thorne Watson has built his game around physicality, discipline and a mindset that reflects the way he approaches every carry.
Watson, a 6-foot, 210-pound member of the Class of 2027, describes his running style as physical and downhill while still possessing the speed to create explosive plays. His personal philosophy is simple: “punish, then escape.”
That combination of power and explosiveness has helped Watson earn an opportunity at the next level. He is committed to Eastern Washington University, where he plans to continue his football career after graduating early from Grant in December 2026.
Watson’s accomplishments extend well beyond the field. He carries a 3.95 GPA while taking AP and dual-enrollment courses and plans to begin classes at Eastern Washington in January. Academically, he intends to major in Biology on a pre-veterinary track.
Faith remains at the center of Watson’s motivation. He credits God first, followed by his family, teammates and his desire to continue improving every day.
His high school journey has also included adversity, which Watson says has taught him patience, discipline, perseverance and the importance of trusting the process. Those lessons have helped shape both the player and person he has become.
Before beginning the next chapter of his career, Watson still has unfinished business at Grant. His goals are to finish his senior season strong, help the Pacers compete for a championship and continue developing so he is prepared to make an impact when he arrives at Eastern Washington.
With college football already ahead of him, Watson remains focused on making the most of his final season in Sacramento while continuing to build toward the future.
