For Travis Vipond, basketball is a family commitment. The Class of 2031 point guard at Rolling Hills Middle School spends time in the gym every day with his parents and sister, building his game around playmaking, basketball IQ, and confidence from beyond the arc.
Vipond has already earned recognition for his shooting, winning two 3-point competitions at Elite Basketball Circuit Camps and another at the Ball Is Life Junior All-American Camp. He takes pride in pairing that shooting ability with smart decisions and creating opportunities for his teammates.
Currently an eighth grader, Vipond plays AAU basketball for Paul George Elite Nor-Cal, previously known as Dream Chasers. He has played with the same team since first grade, developing friendships and chemistry that extend beyond the court. That continuity has also given him a coach who understands his strengths and knows where to push him as he develops.
His long-term goal is to play Division I college basketball, with hopes of competing beyond that level. His competitive nature drives him to win, but his family provides the motivation behind the work.
His sister is both his primary training partner and one of his biggest supporters. They share a love for basketball and a desire to compete at the highest level, challenging each other through shooting sessions and daily workouts.
After transferring to Oak Ridge as a sophomore, his sister contributed to the varsity team before suffering a season-ending ACL injury. Vipond is determined to support her recovery and encourage her as she works toward returning to the court. He looks forward to the opportunity for both of them to represent Oak Ridge next year.
For Vipond, reaching the next level starts with the habits he builds now. Whether he is sharpening his shot, learning from his coach, or training alongside his family, he is committed to improving each day.
With years of team chemistry behind him and ambitious goals ahead, Vipond continues to put in the work for the game he loves.
